From an early age, Ngaire received books as birthday and Christmas gifts, including A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh series, Enid Blyton’s Famous Five series, Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, Johanna Spyri’s Heidi, Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows and Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. Many of these cherished books still sit on her bookshelf today, joined by many more collected over the years.

Reading has always been Ngaire’s escape, allowing her to step away from everyday life and immerse herself in the stories she loves.

Looking back on her teaching career, she recognises how it nurtured her love of nature and storytelling. She often shared personal experiences with her students, talking about her pets, her surroundings and the events she observed, planting the early seeds for the stories she writes today.

About Ngaire Dolphin

I have always loved reading. Libraries and School Libraries have also featured in my life and finding my own books in them is the ultimate accolade.

The Tuatara Encounters:

In these stories, locations had to be actual and in New Zealand. Visits were planned, then came  the storyline, then lots of photographs were taken for the illustrator to work from. This series has taken 10 years to produce.

If you would like to contact Ngaire regarding her books or to arrange a story reading visit, please send a message via the contact page.
